Who we are

What You'll do

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the compliance landscape, ensuring that the organization operates ethically and in full compliance with regulations. Your leadership skills will be crucial in fostering a culture of compliance and accountability, making a significant impact on our continued success and reputation in the industry. This role has direct reports.

• Develop and communicate a clear risk and compliance strategy aligned with the company's overall objectives.
• Provide vision and direction to the risk and compliance team, ensuring everyone is working towards common goals.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly evaluating the effectiveness of risk and compliance initiatives.

What you can expect:

• Operationalize the Bank's compliance program framework, including the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Oversee the company's GRC Infrastructure (applications, policies, and procedures)
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the Bank's comprehensive compliance strategy that aligns with business objectives and regulatory requirements
• Ensuring the compliance operations team documents potential compliance breaches and work with the Governance, Risk and Compliance teams to document breach and remediation.
• Conduct periodic risk assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance and work with business teams to implement measures to mitigate risks effectively
• Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the team, promoting a collaborative and results-driven work environment
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and encourage team members to stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulatory requirements
• Develop and deliver compliance training programs to educate employees on compliance matters and their roles in maintaining a compliant environment
• Work closely with business teams, risk management and legal to assess, prioritize, and manage potential risks related to compliance matters
• Ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation of compliance activities, incidents, and responses
• Pursuant to the FHLBC's AML/BSA framework, analyze suspicious activity, document and report suspicious activity, with legal support develop red flags for suspicious activities, and train staff
• Collaborate with internal audit, enterprise risk management, and legal teams to respond to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits.
• Prepare regular reporting to be included in Compliance Program reports.
• Oversee maintenance of the inventory of applicable legal requirements and related risk ratings.
• Working with business units to support the drafting of controls to ensure compliance with legal requirements across all business units.
• Conduct gap analyses to identify areas of potential non-compliance and support business units in developing strategies to mitigate those risks.

What you'll bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in Compliance, Operations Management, Audit, Risk Management or related field
• At least 5+ years in a leadership/supervisory capacity
• Experience as a compliance professional in the financial services industry is beneficial
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRCM, CCEP, CRISC) are highly desirable
• Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certificate, or equivalent a plus
• Independent problem solver
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of compliance professionals effectively
• Ability to collaborate with peers and stakeholders in a team environment
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
