Job Description:
At Regions, the Capital Markets Assistant General Counsel primarily manages legal and documentation issues for the RECM team and closely interacts with other legal and compliance functions within Capital Markets.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides legal support and guidance to the RECM team, with a particular emphasis on document negotiation, outside counsel management and assistance to the underwriting staff with respect to the closing of CMBS loans and legal oversight of RECM's involvement in FNMA loans, Freddie Mac loans, HUD loans and other RECM products
Ensures adherence to policies and procedures
Responsible for ensuring legal adherence to regulatory requirements
Works effectively within Region's corporate governance practices and policies to ensure that potential risks are appropriately addressed, and that Region's legal/reputational issues and shareholder objectives are covered
This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position is incentive eligible.
Requirements
Law Degree
Three (3) years of commercial real estate lending legal experience in the financial services industry, or at a law firm with strong knowledge of bank regulations or other relevant practical legal experience
Licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one jurisdiction
Knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements related to Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS)
Skills and Competencies
Ability to assimilate and analyze facts and present complex issues in a clear and concise manner and provide succinct results-oriented legal advice
Ability to build strong partnerships with business colleagues to drive results
Ability to manage a high-volume workload and reach prompt, pragmatic decisions
Ability to work in a collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.
Advanced analytical, research, decision-making and problem-solving skills combined with effective time management and project management/planning skills.
Demonstrated ability to comfortably operate in a constantly changing environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills
Candidates with additional years of Commercial Real Estate legal transaction experience, or legal transaction experience specific to Agency (Fannie/Freddie/CMBS/HUD) Multifamily deals may be considered for a higher level Assistant General Counsel position.

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.

Incentive Pay Plans:
This role is eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive plan. Employees have the potential to receive a discretionary award based on performance against defined metrics and goals.
