Life Asset is one of the largest microlenders in the Washington DC area.

Position Summary

Life Asset seeks to hire a full-time Loan Officer to help lead the organization in its next phase of growth. The Loan Officer will work with Life Asset's lending team to expand the small business loan portfolio and be responsible for outreach/marketing, pre-loan training, loan origination, underwriting, loan closing, post-loan business training, servicing, and reporting.

Job Responsibilities

Life Asset Loan Officer is responsible for providing microloans and technical assistance to low-income entrepreneurs in the Washington DC area. The Loan Officer will develop close working relationships with clients and Life Asset’s partners.  This position offers unique opportunity to join a small but growing organization, providing innovative and entrepreneurial services to meet Life Asset's client and partner needs, and carrying out Life Asset's mission. The Loan Officer’s tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Outreach/Marketing: Conduct marketing/outreach activities to provide information about Life Asset’s programs to potential clients and partners.
  • Pre-loan Training: Provide guidance and training to potential borrowers regarding Life Asset’s loan process and on issues related to starting/expanding a small business.
  • Loan Process: Manage all aspects of the loan process, including loan intake, review loan applications, determine the need for additional information, credit approval, underwriting, collection and administration.
  • Post-loan Training: Help organize and manage bi-weekly training events to active Life Asset borrowers on issues related to starting/expanding a small business.
  • Other duties: Identify opportunities for innovation and expansion in lending programs to better serve Life Asset’s target populations. Represent Life Asset at community events and conferences. Assist in grant reports, social media posts and other duties as assigned.

  • Highly organized self-starter who thrives on responsibility and getting things done.
  • Ability to work well alone and within a team environment.
  • Strong work ethics, high level of integrity, punctuality and discipline.
  • Knowledge in using Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Zoom and comfortable learning new tools and technologies.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, in business, marketing, economics, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience starting/operating a small business is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years of lending experience or relevant banking or business experience.
  • Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and/or Small Business Administration (SBA) Lending experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English. Spanish or French speaking is a plus.
