BASIC PURPOSE:

Administers the bank’s commercial loan portfolio.  Develops new commercial business and strengthens existing client relationships while maximizing profitability and minimizing risks.  Participates in major / complex transactions, represents the Bank in the community, plays a major role in overall business development.  Ensures that the bank lending policies and practices are followed.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Solicits new commercial loans and accounts by calling on potential clients.
  • Reviews current clients’ accounts to determine new needs and trends for business development.
  • Meets, and follows up, with clients to assess current and future banking needs.
  • Develops solutions for clients’ borrowing needs.
  • Analyzes financial statements and tax returns.
  • Presents loan packages to committee(s), as necessary.
  • Counsels customers regarding payments, delinquencies and potential future financial problems; and closes loans either directly or through bank personnel or title companies.
  • Cross-sells the bank’s products and services.
  • Actively participates in Loan Committee, Credit Committee and Problem Loan Committee.
  • Represents the bank in contacts with clients and business and trade associations.  Attends civic functions and otherwise promotes the bank’s image.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, Accounting or a business-related field or a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major, or minor, in a business-related field.  In addition, formal credit analysis training or three years of on-the-job training in lending is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years of banking experience which includes, but is not limited to, credit analysis, selling deposit and loan accounts, preparing and closing loans, calling on past due accounts, understanding and analyzing trends and ratios, identifying client needs and the flexibility to structure and customize loans to meet their needs, understanding trends and their respective implications, understanding ratio analysis and implications of changes, managing time and delegation of tasks to analysts, cross-selling bank products and services, and working with support staff, either directly or indirectly.  Must have experience working with financial software.

Computers, fax machines, copy machines, telephones and calculators.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

No unusual physical exertion required.  Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, copy machines, calculators, telephones and other office equipment.  Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to analyze complex financial information including, but not limited to, tax returns and perform mathematical calculations.  Must also be able to work under stress and pressure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a typical office setting and is primarily stationed at a desk.  30% to 50% of the week is devoted to developing new business from prospects and existing clients.  20% to 30% of the week is utilized preparing credits for approval, documentation follow-up and loan structuring.  Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends and travel, if necessary.
